Suits: a Business RPG

Suits: a Business RPG details a businessman’s descent into corporate corruption through crude, chilling graphics and absurdist dialog.
Available across all platforms on Steam for just under a dollar, Suits: a Business RPG immediately captured my attention due to it’s uncanny resemblance to another indie RPG, OFF.
OFF is the critically acclaimed French RPG revolving around the main character, Batter, who is on a mission to “purify” the world of OFF. It was released in 2008 by Mortis Ghost and translated to English in 2011. OFF took the internet (more specifically, the blogging platform Tumblr) by storm some time before the summer of 2014.
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with RPGs. I love the idea of losing myself in an adventure, but I’ve never had the patience to truly enjoy grinding through games such as Pokemon (despite my prior history as a devoted World of Warcraft player).
Naturally, I’ve tried to tango with games such as Earthbound. While I respect everything the Mother series stands for, I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve never actually completed a game within the Mother series on my own. I always run out of patience or take such a long break from the game that I lose my place.
OFF was different. It’s witty, dark humor, eery graphics, and simple gameplay was practically made for the casual admirer of RPGs – like me!
With a bit of pocket change and a Saturday evening to spare, I decided to give Suits: a Business RPG a whirl. Call me a filthy consumer, but I’m absolutely sold.

Opening Cutscene

You are immediately introduced to the world of Suits with a sketchy cutscene of what appears to be a T-Shirt assembly line in a factory (although I wouldn’t be surprised if it were actually a business-suit assembly line).
I have to admit, I was a bit weary about the game at this point, judging the book game by it’s cover graphics, but I took it with a grain of salt. After all, it was only $0.99 and I’ve always found a lick of truth to the age-old phrase you get what you pay for.

As soon as my fellow classmate, Corter, asked me if I would be his daddy, I knew it was time to buckle up for the ride. I didn’t care where the destination was. I was committed to cruising along with wherever this indie RPG wanted to take me.
After navigating the 6th floor, heeding basic gameplay mechanics from Mr. Tuits, enjoying more bizarre interactions with the graduating class, and battling a stapler, the graduation ceremony ensued.

Talk about a dark twist! Surrounded by the remains of my fellow classmates, I found myself wondering if I were truly Suited for the job.
What on earth have I gotten myself into?
